That's just a suggestion, however, because when you are welding an actual part, there is always something in the way that prevents using the optimal angle. It's fine to aim for a proper angle when you are welding a bead on a plate on the bench, though โ you have to start somewhere. Fortunately, your filler rod angle doesn't matter as much as some other factors, which I cover in this video. The bottom line is using a rod angle that gets the job done, right?
